In 1990 the country of Sierra Leone printed a limited edition set of stamps to commemorate the exploration of Mars. Only 3,000 sets were released into circulation before the plates were destroyed. The original cost was equivalent to US$100. Today they sell for MANY times their original value (if you can find someone willing to sell them).
